“Found a great car when I wasn’t looking”

2003 X-Type · A private sale, December 2016 · One owner before · Parted ways in December 2017

How it became David’s

It was a bit of good luck, really.

A friend of a friend’s dad had upgraded to an XF and no longer needed the X-Type. Knowing I was a keen enthusiast, my friend thought I’d be interested. I wasn’t looking for a car at the time, but good cars only come along when you’re not looking. It was in my favourite colour, had exceptionally low miles, and his dad was a retired mechanic, the sort of owner you hope for. I went to see it, didn’t haggle over the price, and walked away with a great car.

With David from December 2016 to 2017

We bought the car just before Christmas, and feeling adventurous, I gave him an oil and filter service on the 27th of December. The next day we headed from Stafford to Ypres to bring in the new year. After that, he became our daily driver. I couldn’t fault the car and genuinely enjoyed driving it, so much so that I started doing volunteer collections and deliveries for a local charity once a week.

Before David

Difficult to remember that far back now, but my friend’s dad bought it new. I remember he was annoyed that one of the sons had borrowed the car just before he sold it and tipped the mileage over 40,000.

Where it went

Parted ways in December 2017.

Unfortunately we only had the car for about a year. It was written off in the snow, but I bought it back off the insurer and sold it to a local independent Jaguar specialist who wanted it as a courtesy car. It’s still on the road today.

What David loved

“It was a great example in a beautiful colour”
