A cut and polish for Enzo

David B. Enzo

A few days of detailing before a much bigger adventure.

Getting Enzo ready for his next trip

With our South of France road trip coming up in May, March was the perfect time to give Enzo some attention and get him gleaming.

Keeping Enzo looking his best has always been part of owning and enjoying him, but with plenty of miles ahead, and knowing there would be lots of photos along the way, I wanted him looking the part before we set off.

I spent a few days detailing him inside and out, using Bilt Hamber products for the paintwork. After giving the bodywork a thorough clean, I used a soft clay bar before moving on to the cutting, compounding and polishing stages with a dual action polisher.

When I'm doing a job like this, I like to get into the areas that are easy to overlook too. That meant removing the rear licence plate so I could clean and polish behind it rather than simply working around the edges.

Having access to the ramp in my dad's garage made a huge difference. It saved my back, but it also meant I could work indoors in consistent conditions without having to worry about what the British weather might decide to do next.

The inside received the same treatment. Leather, carpets, dashboard, glass and all the smaller areas were cleaned and detailed until the interior was looking as fresh as the outside.

It took time to get through everything, but I enjoy that side of ownership. There's something satisfying about taking your time, going around the car section by section and gradually seeing the finish come back at you.

For me, preparing a car for a big drive is part of the build-up. You start thinking about the places you're going to visit, the roads you're going to enjoy and, of course, all the photos you're inevitably going to take.
